ⅠMaterial base: Monel K500 alloy characteristics
Monel K500 (UNS N05500) is a nickel-copper-based precipitation-hardening alloy with core components (ASTM B564 standard):
▶ Nickel (Ni) ≈ 63-67%, copper (Cu) ≈ 27-33%, aluminum (Al: 2.3-3.1%), titanium (Ti: 0.35-0.85%) to enhance aging.
▶ After aging treatment, Ni₃(Al,Ti) reinforced phase is precipitated internally, which makes the strength soar: the tensile strength is > 1000MPa (about 2 times that of Monel 400), and the yield strength is 3 times that of ordinary carbon steel.
ⅡFlange structure: design logic of butt welding + RTJ
1. Weld Neck Flange structure
▶ Neck extension: The flange has a cylindrical neck, which distributes stress on the neck when welding with the pipeline to avoid cracking of the flange and pipeline connection area under high pressure.
▶ Size range: diameter (DN) 10~5000mm, pressure class 150~2500 (corresponding to 6.3~42MPa), covering from conventional to ultra-high pressure working conditions.
2. RTJ sealing surface design
▶ Ring groove features: Concentric circular grooves are machined in the center of the flange seal face (most of the cross-sections are trapezoidal/rectangular, in accordance with ASME B16.5 standards) for embedding metal ring gaskets.
▶ Sealing principle: Under high pressure, the metal ring gasket is deformed to fill the annular groove to achieve a "metal-to-metal" seal, and the leakage resistance is much stronger than that of rubber/asbestos gasket.

▶ Extreme media resistance: 3 times higher resistance to sulfide stress corrosion (SSCC) than Monel 400 in oil-gas mixtures containing H₂S, CO₂; It is also resistant to seawater, salt solution, and high-temperature steam corrosion.
▶ Data support: After 6 years of actual service, the corrosion amount < 0.02mm (far lower than the standard requirements), which is due to the stability of the passivation film of high Ni-Cu alloy and the uniform microstructure after aging treatment.
2. Mechanical properties and reliability
▶ High strength + high toughness: The hardness after aging ≥ 270HB, while maintaining good toughness (elongation ≥20%), and can withstand 500 pressure cycles (0-28MPa) without leakage or deformation.
▶ Machining and connection advantages: Aluminum and titanium elements improve weldability, and when hydraulic preload bolts, the flange neck is rigid, and the preload deviation can be controlled within ±3% to ensure long-term sealing.
