Inconel 718 is a nickel-based superalloy also known as Alloy 718 or UNS N07718. This alloy is composed of nickel, chromium, iron and other elements, especially containing large amounts of iron, niobium and molybdenum, as well as small amounts of aluminum and titanium. Titanium and niobium are added to overcome the problem of strain age cracking during welding and repair. Inconel 718 alloy has excellent creep rupture strength at temperatures up to 1300°F (approximately 700°C). It has good overall performance in the temperature range of -253°C to 700°C. This alloy has the highest yield strength among deformed superalloys, especially at temperatures below 650°C.

Inconel 718 alloy is widely used in aerospace, petrochemical and nuclear industries. It can still maintain high strength and good plasticity at high temperatures, and is suitable for manufacturing various parts with complex shapes. In addition, the alloy also has good fatigue resistance, radiation resistance, oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance, as well as good processing performance and welding performance.

Processing properties of Inconel 718 include:

  • Plastic processing: It has good plasticity at room temperature and can be used for plastic processing such as rolling, extrusion and forging.
  • Heat treatment process: including solid solution treatment and aging treatment. These treatments can improve the structure and properties of the material, increase the solid solubility of alloy elements, and precipitate strengthening phases, further improving the strength and hardness of the material.
  • Welding process: Since Inconel 718 has good welding performance, it can be connected using a variety of welding processes.
  • Mechanical processing performance: Carbide tools need to be used during the processing process to control the cutting speed and feed rate to avoid excessive cutting heat to ensure workpiece quality and tool life.
