Galvanized pipe is a steel pipe with a zinc layer on the surface. The main material is carbon steel. Galvanizing can increase the corrosion resistance and service life of steel pipes, so it is widely used in construction, water supply and drainage, gas transmission, machinery manufacturing and other fields.

 

The production process of galvanized pipes usually includes the following steps:

  • Pipe making: First, carbon steel plates or steel strips are made into steel pipes by cold bending or welding.
  • Cleaning: After the steel pipe is made, it needs to be cleaned to remove oil, rust and other impurities on the surface.
  • Pickling: The cleaned steel pipe is pickled to further remove oxides on the surface to ensure that the surface of the steel pipe is clean and is conducive to the adhesion of the coating.
  • Galvanizing: The steel pipe is coated with a layer of zinc on the surface through molten zinc liquid or electroplating. Galvanizing can be done by hot-dip galvanizing or cold-dip galvanizing (electro-galvanizing).
  • Post-processing: The galvanized steel pipe is cooled and some post-processing is performed, such as passivation, dyeing, etc., to improve the corrosion resistance and aesthetics of the coating.

 

Carbon steel is an iron-carbon alloy whose main components are iron and carbon. The carbon content is usually between 0.008% and 2.11%. Carbon is the most important alloying element in steel, and it has a significant impact on the properties of steel. Depending on the carbon content, carbon steel can be divided into low carbon steel, medium carbon steel and high carbon steel.

 

  • Mild steel: Carbon content usually ranges from 0.008% to 0.30%. Low carbon steel has good plasticity and toughness and good weldability, but its strength is low. Widely used in construction, structure, pipeline, automobile body and other fields.
  • Medium carbon steel: The carbon content is generally between 0.30% and 0.60%. Medium carbon steel has higher strength and hardness than low carbon steel, but its plasticity and toughness are slightly reduced. Suitable for manufacturing gears, springs, cams and other mechanical parts that require a certain degree of strength and wear resistance.
  • High carbon steel: Carbon content between 0.60% and 2.11%. High carbon steel has high hardness and strength, but low plasticity and toughness, and is prone to brittle fracture. It is often used in the manufacture of cutting tools, molds, chains, bearings and other components that require high wear resistance and strength.

In addition to iron and carbon, carbon steel may contain other elements such as manganese, silicon, sulfur, and phosphorus, which can affect the steel's properties, such as increasing strength, improving weldability, or increasing corrosion resistance. However, the content of these elements is usually low and does not change the basic properties of carbon steel.

In general, carbon steel is a basic and widely used metal alloy. Its properties and uses depend largely on its carbon content and whether it contains other alloying elements.
